Audiology
Northeast Georgia RESA Audiologists perform two functions in the districts they serve. First, audiologists conduct retesting for students who fail hearing screenings performed by a trained hearing screener. This service is considered part of the screening process and is not considered a Related Service. Second, as a Related Service the Audiologist can provide ongoing direct service to students with known hearing loss throughout the school year. Typically, a student who receives audiology as a Related Service uses some form of amplification. Audiology services can be provided under a Related Service on either an IEP or 504-plan.
Below is a list of services provided by the Audiology Team through Shared Services:

Hearing retesting at school for students who are referred when they do not pass a hearing screening.

Full audiological evaluation at RESA for students on an as-needed basis.

Recommendations regarding medical referrals, hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and classroom accommodations for children with hearing difficulties, as appropriate.

Fitting and follow-up for classroom and individual assistive listening devices for school use.

Consultations with classroom teachers and school personnel;

Participation in IEP and 504 meetings.
